Graham Norton said recently that the best age to get a tattoo is 80 as you have fewer years left to regret it!<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve long toyed with the idea of getting one. I don\u2019t have any strong feelings pro or anti tattoo. I suppose, if pushed, I don\u2019t find skin completely covered with ink all that appealing but each to his own.<\/p>\n

The news that Judi Dench, at the grand old age of 81, has just revealed a new tattoo on the inside of her wrist, got me thinking. Could it be my next bucket task?<\/p>\n

I’d love an elephant tattoo, of course! This is really pretty:<\/p>\n

But where do I find a reliable tattooist who won\u2019t laugh at a lardy middle-aged woman? How do I decide on the design? Which bit of my body do I decorate? And, more important than any of these considerations, will I be able to cope with the pain? I\u2019m a bit of a wuss!<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve thought about it before and have been tempted. Tried those fake ones which were quite fun. And came off after a soak in the bath. Ah! That\u2019s the trouble with the real thing – it\u2019s going to stay put for the rest of your life. Hence the Graham Norton quote. If you have one in old age, you haven\u2019t got all that long left with it!<\/p>\n

The jury\u2019s still out. But I\u2019m off to research possible designs. Have you got a tattoo? How did you decide where it went and what pattern have you got? (And is it really<\/em> painful? Please tell!)<\/p>\n
