The tree\u2019s up (here\u2019s Ralph doing quality control) so it\u2019s time for the traditional round up of the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ralph, having ignored trees in the past, is extremely interested in this one and keeps sabotaging the lights \u2026 <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

2022 had its ups and downs. The good stuff involved getting three books out, having several short stories accepted by The People\u2019s Friend and signing to Bloodhound Books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Harper Collins Summer Party was a highlight of June, the RNA Conference was a great way to spend a weekend in July (in a heatwave. Hard to remember all that heat as it\u2019s -2C in Devon today!). A quick trip to London for the RNA Winter Party in November was fun. I also broke the barrier of my comfort zone by doing a live online interview with Suzanne Snow and had a (snow) ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lots of One More Chapter writers braving the cold at the Harper Collins Summer Party. It was freezing!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

There have been the usual Zoom meetings with writing groups, online courses and meetings in real life with writing chums. I enjoyed getting creative by doing a stained-glass course as research for my next book and attended one or two local author events. It\u2019s been busy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A family bereavement saw me attaining Frequent Flyer Status on the M5 as I now have to drive back to the Midlands more frequently. This is a blessing in disguise as I also get the chance to catch up with friends still based there. And a spell in hospital saw me taking most of September off as I recovered.

Writing has certainly been squeezed in, in fits and starts and the Roman timeslip is taking nearly as long to write as the Romans were in power \u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of all the above, I haven\u2019t watched much TV.\u00a0I snaffled a\u00a0cheap\u00a0copy of\u00a0Northern Exposure\u00a0<\/em>to watch on DVD as I loved the series back in the day and am devastated to report that it hasn\u2019t aged\u00a0well.\u00a0Sometimes\u00a0it\u2019s best to leave memories well alone.\u00a0Even\u00a0Strictly<\/em>\u00a0has failed to work\u00a0its magic on me this year. I am, however,\u00a0really\u00a0looking forward to\u00a0Detectorists<\/em>\u00a0returning in a one-off special. Can\u2019t wait! I\u2019ve\u00a0thoroughly\u00a0enjoyed\u00a0Between the Covers<\/em>\u00a0on BBC2 and have picked up one or two\u00a0recommended\u00a0reads from that.\u00a0Oh – and loved Lucy Worsley\u2019s documentary on Agatha Christie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Book highlights of the year include Pamela Hartshorne\u2019s Time\u2019s Echo<\/em>, The Fever of the World<\/em> by Phil Rickman, Philip Gray\u2019s Two Storm Wood<\/em> (a Between the Covers recommendation), Mudlarking<\/em> by Lara Maiklem and the fantastic The Witch\u2019s Tree<\/em> by Elena Collins.
