As I thumped the keyboard in frustration yet again, The Husband walked in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019ll be your dongle,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Now, my dear hubby has a habit of saying things so confidently and authoritively that you believe he knows what he\u2019s talking about, when actually the exact opposite is far more likely to be true!<\/p>\n<p>In the early days of our relationship, I used to believe him all the time and he used to tell me some right old stories.<\/p>\n<p>Back to the dongle. He had me going for a while and then I wondered if he was right this time.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s something about the world of computer technology which has given birth to a whole range of peculiar new vocabulary. I know language changes all the time \u2013 but is it because computer experts are often young, male and being so are, shall we say, slightly obsessed with &#8230; erm &#8230; masculine things?<\/p>\n<p>Take dongle (if it indeed exists). Reminiscent of the male appendage or possibly Australian slang for something in the outback? I\u2019d like to think if a woman had invented a word to describe the thingy which dictates broadband connection, she\u2019d\u2019ve termed it something more feminine: a tissell or a tossell maybe?
