When I was starting out on the writing \u2018journey\u2019 (oops sorry for using the j word), I studied everything I could find to help.<\/p>\n
I began writing on an internet forum. It was a great place to start. I posted a chapter at a time but didn\u2019t have a clue what was going to happen next. It was a wonderful way to build confidence. I began as an instinctive writer \u2013 I had no idea about the craft<\/em> of writing. I had to learn that next.<\/p>\n There are many excellent books on the subject. I can recommend The Beginner\u2019s Guide to Writing a Novel \u2013 Marina Oliver, The Creative Writing Student\u2019s Handbook \u2013 Cathie Hartigan and Margaret James, and Sue Moorcroft\u2019s Love Writing. Also, James Scott Bell\u2019s book on Plot and Structure worked on a specific weak area of mine.<\/p>\n There are also magazines. Writing Magazine became a favourite. I\u2019d devour it every month.<\/p>\n Last autumn I was asked if I\u2019d like to be interviewed for their author profile feature. I didn\u2019t hesitate. It was a real honour to become part of a magazine, which was \u2013 and still is \u2013 a big part of my learning process.<\/p>\n You can read the interview in the March edition of Writing Magazine, out now and also online.
