Happy New Year everyone! To start the shiny new year off, I’ve decided to revive my guest blog feature. I’ve got a whole year of lovely guests and fascinating posts ahead so make sure you check in regularly to see who’s on.
To kick it all off here’s Mick Arnold telling us all about his Take Three Books.
I love this blog topic and always find the chosen books fascinating. I’m sure you will, too. I’ve asked my guest to choose a book they wished they’d written, one which is inspiring and to tell us about their latest release as their third book.
Over to you, Mick. What’s the book you’d most like to have written?
Book 1:
I’m not sure if this is cheating or not, but this choice is a little of both an inspiration, and one I wish I’d written. ‘The Silver Sword’ by Ian Serraillier was first published back in 1956 and is the first book I remember reading from school. The story of a family of Jewish children set during the ending of World War Two and its immediate aftermath, this story moved me as I’d never experienced as a child. A powerful and moving experience of the influence of love and forgiveness, I believe this is as relevant now, as when it was first written.
Absolutely agree with you on this one, Mick. I read it at school too and it’s stayed with me.
Now tell us about the book you find most inspiring …
Book 2:
Who hasn’t heard of Terry Pratchett? Terry is my absolute favourite author! Full stop! From the first book of his I read, until this day, this remains true; and ‘Guards! Guards!’ is one I keep coming back to, especially when I need a pick-me-up. The original blurb says it all. I think it goes something like – Captain Vimes is looking for a fifty foot Dragon he believes can help him with his enquires.
And onto your latest release as your third book. I love the sound of the psychotic farm cat!
Book 3:
My latest release is out on the 8th February. Titled, ‘The Lumberjills’ and published by The Wild Rose Press, this is the first in what I hope will be a new series.
Here’s the blurb:
Berry Chambers and her co-workers have joined the Women’s Timber Corps—known as the Lumberjills—to do their bit for Britain. On their first day felling trees, they rescue an RAF pilot and become entangled in the loveless marriage of their new landlords.
Danger is never far away, be it an ill-timed axe swing or the occasional activity of the Luftwaffe overhead. Add a psychotic farm cat, a couple of young runaway evacuees, a spate of malicious packages, and the jealousy of the Land Girls next door, and life for Berry and her friends is never boring.
Can the girls find the balance between their vital war work and the natural pull of love?
About the author:
Mick is a hopeless romantic who was born in England but spent fifteen years roaming around the world in the pay of the late HM Queen Elisabeth II in the Royal Air Force before putting down roots—and realizing how much he missed the travel. This he’s replaced somewhat with his writing, including reviewing books and supporting fellow saga and romance authors in promoting their novels.
He’s the proud keeper of two Romanian Werecats bent on world domination, is mad on the music of the Beach Boys, and enjoys the theatre and humouring his Manchester United-supporting wife.
Finally, and most importantly, Mick is a full member of the Romantic Novelists Association. The Lumberjills is the lead book in this new series from the author of the Broken Wings novels.
What a fascinating life you’ve led, Mick, and I’m sure it inspires your writing.
The Lumberjills sounds a great read. Make sure you look out for Mick’s new release next month. You can find out more about Mick and his books here:
